Moving out of a home or office always uncovers more stuff than you expected. Old furniture, built-in wardrobes, broken appliances and leftover renovation materials all need to go somewhere. This checklist helps you plan disposal and dismantling so you are not scrambling in the last week.
Step 1: Decide What Stays, Goes or Gets Sold
Walk through every room and sort items into three groups: keep and move, sell or donate, and dispose of. Do this early, because selling or donating takes time.
Step 2: Check Your Lease or Handover Terms
If you are a tenant, your agreement may require built-ins and fixtures you added to be removed. For offices and shops, this is usually part of a wider reinstatement scope, so check before you book separate contractors.
Step 3: List Everything That Needs Dismantling
Furniture
Beds, wardrobes, sofas and tables often will not fit through doors or lifts in one piece and need to be taken apart first.
Built-in Carpentry
Kitchen cabinets, TV consoles, platform beds and shelving are fixed to walls and floors. They need careful removal to avoid damaging the surfaces behind them.
Fixtures and Appliances
Old water heaters, light fittings, sinks and toilet bowls can be removed and disposed of together. If you are replacing them, our electrical and plumbing team can install the new ones in the same visit.
Office Fit-out
Workstations, partitions, filing cabinets and meeting room fittings. For hard finishes like tiles or counters, you may also need hacking and disposal.
Step 4: Check Building Access Rules
Booking the service lift or loading bay
Permitted moving and working hours
Protection required for lifts and corridors
Step 5: Book Removal Early
Book your dismantling and disposal at least one to two weeks ahead, especially near month-end, when many leases finish. For offices, after-hours removal avoids disturbing other tenants.
Tip: WhatsApp us photos of the items you want removed. It is the fastest way to get an accurate quote without a site visit.
Step 6: Clean Up and Inspect
Once everything is removed, the space should be swept and checked for damage before you hand over the keys.
